Dr. Marshall Strome

Dr. Marshall Strome, board-certified otolaryngologist, is the immediate past Professor and Chairman of the Cleveland Clinic Head and Neck Institute. Dr. Strome has served as president of many professional organizations including The Society of University Otolaryngologists, The American Laryngological Association, The Cartesian Society, The University of Michigan Medical Alumni Association, and The Triological Society (vice president). Dr. Strome also served on the Recombinant DNA Committee of the NIH. Some of his key achievements are;


  • Performed the world's first total human laryngeal transplant.
  • Pioneered the first robotic laser excision of a laryngeal malignancy.
  • Developed new surgical procedures for managing laryngeal cancer and aspiration.
  • One of few recognized by the American Academy of Otolaryngology, Head and Neck Surgery at the millennium for their contribution to medicine in the last 250 years, and received the medal of the city of Paris, France.
  • Prestigiously recognized among Outstanding People in the 20th Century, Who's Who in the World, Castle Connolly's "America's Top Doctors" and "Top Doctors for Head and Neck Cancer," and cited a "Medical Hero" in the Guinness Book of World Records Millennium Edition.
  • Authored and contributed to more than 200 scientific articles and book chapters, has been lecturer and visiting professor worldwide more than 100 times, and served on the scientific advisory boards of several companies.
